When many people first start dating, they make very common mistakes and usually don't even realize it. These mistakes can end a relationship before it has a chance to go anywhere. As a Matchmaker, I get to hear all the stories and things that go wrong. I’m going to share with you 3 of the top ones I hear all too often:
Taking Things Too Fast
When you first begin dating someone, it is important to take things slow. If you go on a first date and it goes well, it is important to continue at a slow pace. If you begin having the “where is this relationship going” talk too early in the relationship, you risk scaring the other person off. The beginning of a relationship is the time to have fun and get to know each other, then you can both figure out if you even want to have the “where is this relationship going” conversation.
When it comes to having sex, this is also something that should be done in good time. It is a good idea to get to know each other as people before you begin to get to know each other physically. Introducing sex into a new relationship only complicates things.
Ignoring Red Flags
When you first begin dating someone, it is important to listen carefully and look for red flags. You may be so anxious for the relationship to work that you ignore things that in any other situation would bother you. For example, if you are on a date with a man who talks constantly about sex, this is a sign that he may only be interested in one thing. Another example, if you are out and your date is pounding down the drinks, chances are they have a problem. When you are dating, it is important to let go of your desire to be in a committed relationship and see your date for exactly who they are.
Being Too Clingy
When you first start dating someone, it is important not to be too clingy. If you have only been out once, it is not a good idea to call your date several times a day. Also, it is a bad idea to expect your date to spend all of their free time with you at the beginning. Not only does this give them a glimpse of a relationship with you that could scare them off, but it also gives them the idea that you have nothing else going on in your life.
Dating can be difficult. It can be even more difficult if you do not know common mistakes of dating that you should avoid.
